Vengerski Street

Vasily Petrovich Vengerski — hero of the Great Patriotic War, was born in the village of Denisova, near Tobolsk, on May 7, 1925. When the boy was three years old, the family moved to the city and Vasily went to school No. 13, and then entered the vocational school No. 5. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, in August 1942, he left for Omsk, where he worked at the factory as a locksmith. After completing military training in the city of Kansk, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Vengerski went to the front as an ordinary signalman. In the midst of the battle for the liberation of the village of Bogdanovka, not far from the town of Znamenka, Kirovograd region, the connection of the regiment headquarters with its batteries was cut off. Vengerski signalman was assigned an urgent task to repair the damage and restore communication. Under heavy fire, he made his way to the place of the cable break and began to clean the ends of the wire. But at that moment, a shell exploded close by. Bleeding profusely, losing consciousness, Vengerski tightly clamped the ends of the broken wire with his teeth. A current passed through the fighter’s body and the connection was restored.

The motherland awarded Vasily the Order of the Patriotic War of the first degree. By the decision of the Tobolsk City Duma No. 12 of March 16, 1995, one of the streets of Tobolsk was named after Vasily Vengerski.
